The Falkland Islands Health Service is looking for a General Practitioner to work in primary care alongside our team of Medical Officers, Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Practice nurse. The GP surgeries are based at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital in Stanley. This post involves undertaking the full remit of GP work and will consist of 10 sessions per week (no on-call), with 3 of these sessions being dedicated administration time.

Along with general clinical work the successful candidate will be responsible for helping to drive forward up-to-date care and help develop services.  Audit and healthcare planning related to chronic disease management will form a central part of the role.  Candidates will be expected to demonstrate excellence in General Practice medical care and show they are continuously developing and updating in the field.

The Package

  • Fixed Term Contract, up to 4 years.
  • Salary £110,000 per annum.
  • 30 Days Annual Leave, plus government and public holidays (totalling 41 days leave).

Health & Social Services Department

The Directorate of Health and Social Services is one of the Directorates of the Falkland Islands Government (FIG) which offers a range of fulfilling job opportunities across the full spectrum of public services. Working in the Health and Social Services means that the successful applicant will be able to work in small team providing a wide range of health care to our small community.

Our team consists of 2 General Practitioner posts, and 4 Medical Officer posts (GP’s who also undertake secondary and emergency care, some who also cover intrapartum obstetrics) which also includes the Chief Medical Officer post, as well as one consultant general surgeon and a consultant anaesthetist.
