Emergency Medicine Consultant

Cork University Hospital (CUH) is seeking a dedicated Emergency Medicine Consultant to join our esteemed team in Cork. CUH’s Emergency Department (ED) is the busiest in the country, treating over 65,000 patients annually. Our highly skilled and experienced team of doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals are committed to providing exceptional emergency care 24/7. Our consultants also extend their expertise to the Mercy University Hospital and oversee governance of the Local Injury Units within our network.

The CUH ED operates as a 24-hour service within the ‘Acute Floor,’ delivering unscheduled care. Our primary role includes alleviating patient pain and distress, diagnosing life-threatening conditions through thorough examinations and diagnostic workups, initiating time-critical treatments, and coordinating referrals for approximately 30% of patients to in-house speciality teams for continued care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical care and governance for all ED patients.
  • Offer strategic leadership to emergency services.
  • Cultivate a culture of mentorship and collaboration within the emergency department.
  • Participate in the Emergency Medicine department rotas.
  • Collaborate effectively with all consultants at Cork University Hospital to ensure the delivery of high-quality emergency care.

Qualifications:

  • Eligibility for registration with the Irish Medical Council (IMC) under the specialist registration.
  • Significant experience as an Emergency Medicine Specialist/Consultant.

Salary: €222,000-266,000 per annum
