Position Overview:
Mercy Ships is seeking a skilled Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon to join our dedicated team, providing transformative surgical care to children with orthopedic conditions. In this role, you will perform surgeries on patients 14 years old and younger, treating congenital, developmental, or degenerative conditions, as well as reconstructing damage caused by injury or infection. You will also play a crucial role in post-operative care and in training local professionals to ensure ongoing care.
Key Responsibilities:
– Assess potential pediatric surgical candidates for conditions such as Blount’s disease, wind-swept deformities, genu valgus, quadriceps contractures, neglected clubfeet, and osteogenesis imperfecta.
– Clearly communicate planned procedures, expected outcomes, and potential complications to patients and caregivers, using diagrams and translators when necessary.
– Conduct thorough preoperative assessments in collaboration with anesthetic providers and hospital physicians.
– Perform scheduled pediatric orthopedic surgeries, focusing on safe and effective treatment.
– Provide ongoing consultation and manage post-operative care for surgical patients.
– Train and mentor other surgeons, sharing your expertise in pediatric orthopedic surgery.
Qualifications:
– Active licensure/registration in your home nation.
– Minimum of 2 years of surgical practice following the completion of specialty training in pediatric orthopedics.
– Recent surgical practice experience (within the last six months preferred).
– Fluency in English, both written and oral.
– Flexibility and sensitivity to language and cultural diversity.
