ENT consultant - St Helena Island, South Atlantic

St Helena Island, South Atlantic

3-4 weeks FTC September 2021 (plus quarantine)

If you can provide specialist ENT medical treatment and assessment for referred patients, your costed proposal or expression of interest is invited to bring your specialist skills to an island community.

Enjoying unique lifestyle opportunities, St Helena Island is a self-governing overseas territory of the United Kingdom. Although better placed to develop economically and socially as a result of opening our international airport in 2017, we are not at the stage of self-sufficiency and therefore remain dependent on UK government aid. The 28-bed General Hospital in the capital, Jamestown, covers all areas of acute medical and surgical care.

Giving support and advice to the medical team, your input on any equipment to be considered to improve clinical care will be greatly valued, as will your suggestions on pharmaceuticals and consumables for paediatric patients.

You must review referral patterns for ENT cases over the past three years, with a brief note advising on emergency distant support requirements and referral criteria. Offering advice and guidance to clinical staff on improving their professional skills, you will conduct at least two training sessions.

Findings and recommendations will be shared and discussed with the SMO and Director of Health prior to departure and you will submit a completion report within six weeks of return.

With full GMC registration or equivalent and good standing with that body you will have a very substantial background as an ENT practitioner, a fully qualified ENT surgeon with lengthy post-registration experience.

In addition, you must demonstrate our core values of fairness, integrity and teamwork and use your diverse expertise and experiences to ensure your time on the Island has the broadest benefit to St Helena.  As an officer funded by the UK Government through the Technical Co-Operation Programme you will be expected to share your knowledge and skills beyond the workplace contributing to workforce, community and capacity development in St Helena.

The Public Service positively accepts applications from all members of the community regardless of race, gender, disability, age, sexual orientation, religion or belief, and will consider all applications on the basis of merit, in accordance with the person specification.

Due to the potential for high numbers of applications, if you have not heard from us within 2 weeks of the closing date you should assume you have not been short listed.  We would like to thank you for your interest in working for St Helena Government.
