Akureyri Hospital is hiring physicians in various specialties. It is a university-affiliated community hospital serving Northern and Eastern Iceland. Akureyri is a the largest community in North Iceland, with 20,000 inhabitants. The hospital‘s catchment area has 40,000 inhabitants.

Akureyri Hospital provides specialty care in the following fields: OB-GYN, pediatrics, internal medicine, geriatrics, rehabilitation medicine, psychiatry, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, anesthesia and critical care, radiology, and pathology. It is a teaching hospital with 25 doctors in training as well as rotating medical students.
The hospital has full laboratory services, 3 operating rooms with 2800 surgeries per year, outpatient clinics with 13,400 annual visits, and an emergency department with around 17,000 annual visits.
Akureyri is located in Eyjafjordur at the base of Iceland‘s largest fjord, surrounded by stunning mountains. The area offers lots of opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, fishing, horseback riding, whale watching, white river rafting, kayaking and gliding. It is home to the Midnight Open, a golf tournament played during the bright nights of summer. Winter activities include e.s. cross-country skiing, downhill skiing (about 10 minutes away), world-renowned heli-skiing (about an hour away), and enjoying the Northern Lights.
